Supportive care
Comfort care alongside your palliative team
When the focus of care turns to comfort, every day matters. We help with sleep, appetite, calm and support for the family. We work alongside your palliative care team, never in place of it.
Call your oncologist first
A new lump, unexplained bleeding or weight loss, persistent pain, breathlessness, or fever during chemotherapy needs your oncologist or emergency care first.
Your palliative team comes first
Palliative care teams look after pain, breathlessness and other symptoms with medicines that work. We never ask anyone to reduce or avoid pain relief, palliative medicine or hospice care.
Working with your oncologist
You continue under your oncologist. Our Ayurvedic care is coordinated with, and subject to, your treating oncology team.
Never start any Ayurvedic Medicine during chemotherapy or radiation without your oncologist and our doctor reviewing it together.
Gentle support
How we help
Sleep and calm
How we help: a quiet evening routine, slow breathing, and a peaceful room.
Call your palliative team if: pain or breathlessness keeps the person awake.
Appetite and small meals
How we help: small amounts of favourite foods, for pleasure and never under pressure.
Call your palliative team if: swallowing becomes hard, or vomiting does not settle.
Mouth and skin comfort
How we help: gentle mouth care and skin care, as your palliative team advises.
Call your palliative team if: you see sores, bleeding or a new wound.
Support for the family
How we help: guidance on daily care, rest for the caregiver, and time to talk.
Call your palliative team if: you feel you are no longer coping. Extra help is available.
Food for comfort
Eating less is common at this stage, and it is not a failure. Serve small amounts of foods the person enjoys. Sips of fluid, as your team advises. Never force food or drink.
For the family
- Being present matters more than doing everything right.
- Take breaks. Let other family members share the care.
- Ask your palliative team what to expect, and who to call at night.
- More for caregivers
